Important Poses for Back Care – No. 3

The Supta Padangusthasana Cycle, sometimes just called leg stretches or hip openers, are often “prescribed” for managing backs. These poses can accomplish three important things: 1) stretch hamstrings, 2) help develop core strength, and cultivate somatic awareness and sensitivity.

Here’s how the Supta Padangusthasana Cycle can work in a sequence, along with other poses:

Virasana with Baddha Hastasana, 1 minute

Hip Opener

Supta Padangustasana A

Supta Padangustasana B

Hamstring stretch

Chest Opener, 1 minute

Chest Opener

Curl Ups x 10

Abdominal Curls

Savasana, block support in upper thoracic, blanket for head and neck, 5 – 10 minutes
