In Good Conscience

Oh, how I hate to bust myself. Not as difficult as standing still in a fire ant hill, but still awfully uncomfortable.

Without going into a lot of detail, today I felt some strong emotions and spoke them, tinged as they were with just a smattering of blame. Almost immediately I regretted what I’d said and then had a job to mop up. I’m fortunate to be with someone who can listen without defending or hitting back – well, most always – he is human.

I think of human evolution, not as working towards ultimate perfection, but getting good at noticing when you create a mess and cleaning it up, hopefully with improved acceleration each time.

I like something B.K.S. Iyengar said in his book Light on Life: we usually hear a still small voice within – our conscience – when we misstep. And, that’s a good thing to get a prick of conscience because it means you can still hear the voice of God.
