Kid’s Yoga

KidsYoga

Back when I was a girl – 27 yrs. old – I was lucky to find a yoga class of any kind. Yoga was a very fringe happening in those days of hootenannies and the Beatles’ magical tour with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

These days we can find a yoga program for every season and reason – one of the most popular niches being yoga for children.

At a recent yoga conference I attended, a panelist whose topic was “Yoga of the Future” brought out a group of kids to do a demonstration of their poses for us. It made sense. Kids are considered our future. Imagine if we had all started out on our yoga paths at tender ages.

One of the speakers at the yoga conference was Janet Etty-Leal, an inspiring presenter who I can recommend highly for her dedication to yoga and to children. For you Victorian teachers, trainees, and parents, you can attend a workshop with Janet based on her award-winning book, Meditation Capsules: A Mindfulness Program for Children, flyer attached.

Also please check my blogroll for Kylie Peters’ Simply Kids link. Kylie is one of the most professional, skilled and conscientious children’s yoga teachers in Australia. Her website is rich in inspiring and informative material relating to kids.

Perhaps if yoga children really do become our future, we might fulfil John Lennon’s words:

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
