Stop and Smell….

today's trumpets

I have such a privileged life. On this day in April  2011 at 10 pm on Mitchells Island, NSW, it is quiet, the weather is temperate and autumnal, and we have a houseful of dear friends.

Things can change in a flash, and they certainly do. But for now, my health is good, I enjoyed a delicious meal tonight, after viewing a beautiful sunset over Scotts Creek, and I feel a warm connection with all who might read this post.

I feel enormous gratitude for the beautiful relationship I have with my husband, for being able to get up in the morning and do yoga practice in The Shed – often with friends, and for the lovely lap of Nature that I dwell in on Mitchells Island.

This weekend we are holding an open house for our choir, members of which will come along to socialise, enjoy afternoon tea and then sing together. What could be better than having a harmonious chorus of music to bless this house and our surroundings.

I know there are those in the world doing it much harder, and I have at times, too, which makes this bracket of peace, health, and shared community all the more to be savoured and appreciated.

Two quotes on the subject of the practice of gratitude:

Roberto Benigni – It’s a sign of mediocrity when you demonstrate gratitude with moderation.

Karl Barth – Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.
