I Left My Heart in Mitchells Island

Daniel and I had a beautiful last day in Northern California. Old friend, Melissa, took us into S.F. to lunch at the Legion of Honor Cafe in Golden Gate Park and then to the exhibition of paintings from the Musee D’Orsay – featuring Van Gough, Gaugin, and much more at the De Young Museum. Brilliant!
I kept thinking as I walked around dazzled by paintings like “Starry Night” and “Beach at Heist” how much I was missing the green vistas of our home on Mitchells Island. Especially since Heather and Rick have just taken delivery of a big batch of plants and shrubs in anticipation of our spring planting.
The Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters married their imaginations and technical virtuosity to create art. We, in our way, will be working on the canvas that we started working on 10 months ago – one that’s constructed of layers 0f newspapers, organic material, mulch, manure – all broken down now into delicious black, wormy soil. Hopefully our verdant garden will one day present a pretty picture, an even more striking impression of our gorgeous home.
San Francisco was hung with patches of romantic mist today; it’s no doubt a grand, old, sophisticated city. In any competition though, I’d be voting for my home turf.
And that’s where we’re heading. Can’t wait to get to my Yoga Shed!
